Room 1

Ultima Thule

Ultima Thule refers to the classical geography term of a distant and remote place that is known to exist but has never been explored. In the past it was thought to be a lost island in the Baltic Sea. In 2018, NASA gave this name to the most distant known astronomical object in the solar system.

Ultima Thule is that inner island that emerges within our sea of ineffable thoughts to which we are irredeemably attracted. Where we seek answers that cannot be uttered, where the everyday gesture becomes abstract. On the stage we present a shamelessly familiar device that becomes a current metaphor of the ancient totems, objects full of spiritual energy that amidst nature are turned into places of pilgrimage and veneration.

ATRESBANDES

ATRESBANDES is a performing arts company emerged from an artistic and personal meeting of minds between Mònica Almirall, Miquel Segovia and Albert Pérez. In 2008 we decided to form a company. As the group has grown and developed so have the methods we use to approach the act of creation. Though influenced by an enormous variety of disciplines, our work is characterised by a single constant: advocacy for a theatre laboratory where the process of creation is paramount. We seek to question everything around us. This is the one thing that drives our approach to contemporary theatre.
